What is socked 478?

Socket 478, also known as mPGA478, is a CPU socket used for Pentium 4 and Celeron processors from Intel. It was introduced in 2000 as a replacement for Socket 423 and was phased out in favor of LGA 775 in 2004.

Socket 478 processors were based on the NetBurst microarchitecture and typically had a front-side bus speed of 400 MHz to 800 MHz. They were used in desktop and mobile systems, with a maximum supported CPU clock speed of around 3.4 GHz.

Overall, Socket 478 was a popular choice for mainstream desktop and mobile computers in the early 2000s, offering a balance of performance and price. However, it has since been surpassed by newer CPU sockets with improved technologies and performance capabilities.
